Groups around the country are getting state legislatures to consider impeachment resolutions. Two past precedents exist for Congress to begin impeachment proceedings based on a petition from a legislature.

Impeachment by Political Organizations
Statewide Democratic Party organizations have endorsed impeachment in 10 states.
The national Green Party has endorsed impeachment.
Thomas Eddlam has proposed a "Rebel Alliance" of conservative and liberal organizations that would all work for impeachment in the interest of protecting the Constitution. Eddlam is a conservative talk show host and member of the John Birch Society.

Impeachment in California
Impeachment advocate David Swanson
writes, "Next week marks a pivotal moment for the California Impeachment Resolution." Assemblyman
Paul Koretz will be holding a press conference on Tuesday, August 8, to kick off efforts to pass his impeachment resolution (AJR 39).
The resolution is currently in the Assembly Rules Committee.
Supporters expect to move quickly to pass the resolution first in the State Assembly and then in the State Senate.
The resolution does not require support from the Governor.

GOP Discusses Impeachment
The Republican National Committee has a good web site on the success of the impeachment movement. It seems that the Republican Party has more to say about impeachment than does the national Democratic Party.
